In February we got contacted by Cat Lucas from English PEN who asked if the translations of Dawit Isaak’s writings to English yet where available. Unfortunately they have been delayed and the translations are still under process. But Björn Tunbäck, Reporters without Borders, provided some extract of one of Dawit’s plays ‘Dillay Dally’ that got passed along to the writer David Berridge who had been paired with Dawit Isaak.

It was the first ever English PEN Modern Literature Festival and it was a collaboration with The Enemies Project and there they highlighted Dawit Isaak among the 30 chosen writers at risk around the world. Read more about the festival at English PEN’s website.

David Berridge about his reading:
I ended up collaging some of the different texts on the Free Dawit site by with bits of the play, the PEN case notes, and other readings that seemed to connect in some way.
