“Sit with Dawit” is a campaign designed to create engagement in the Dawit Isaak’s case. A mockup of his cell will be on-site. All we ask of the participants is their time. Fifteen minutes, to be exact. Fifteen minutes to be locked up in the cell for a moment’s reflection.
It may not sound like much, especially not if you compare with the 14 years Dawit Isaak has been imprisoned. But 15 minutes in a pitch-black cell causes us humans to think. Spend these minutes thinking of Dawit Isaak. Everyone is given the opportunity to sit, not for Dawit, but with Davit. With this cell we have created a room for empathy. Conversation near the cell will be kept quiet, out of respect for Dawit Isaak and the situation he is in.
We hope the experience of “Sit with Dawit” brings a sense of closeness for a human being and a fate that is so easy to disconnect from for us without a clue as to what his life is like down in Africa, somewhere far, far away.
We are also hoping that the participants will share their experience via personal networks. If you want this campaign event to be linked to a larger like-minded event, feel free to contact us at info@freedawit.com.
